  1. Fables and Fairy Tales

    June 8 - July 27 @ Storybook Land Castle

    Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and the Alexander Mitchell Public Library will be sponsoring eight special storytimes geared for children ages 3 to 7 in the Storybook Land Castle at Wylie Park. Storytimes will include a variety of stories and folk tales as well as songs and arts and crafts activities. "Fables and Fairy Tales" will begin at 10 AM and last approximately 40 minutes. Don't miss the big finale for "Fables and Fairy Tales" and "Dream Big - Read" library summer program. Everyone is welcome for this featured fun and excitement held on Friday, July 27 - 10 AM at the Storybook Land Castle.

  2. Concerts in the Park by the Aberdeen Municipal Band

    June 14 - August 2 @ Melgaard Park

    Join Bandmaster, Jerry Letcher, and the Aberdeen Municipal Band for one of their free weekly concerts at the Melgaard Park Bandshell this summer. Held every Thursday night at 8 PM, the concerts will begin June 14 and run through August 2. The band will feature special guest, faculty from the Rushmore Music Camp on Thursday, August 2. Do not miss this special performance! No concert July 5. The July 4th concert will be held at Wylie Park along with all the other July 4th activities. Whether you like nostalgic, patriotic, or exciting new songs, they're all here and sure to appeal to young and old alike . No charge. The Aberdeen Lioness Club offers concessions at the concerts including pop, water, popcorn and candy.

  3. Melgaard Park 2 Mile Fun Runs

    July 11 - August 1 @ Melgaard Park

    Wednesday July 11 and Wednesday August 1 This event is for the recreational runner as well as the avid runner of all ages. The course will highlight the recreational trail along Moccasin Creek. Times will be kept, but the event will be noncompetitive in nature. No advanced registration is necessary. Drawings will be held to give away prizes to participants. Sponsored by Avera St. Luke's Physical Therapy/Acceleration and U.S. Bank

  4. Fraternal Order of Police 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney

    July 23 - July 24 @ Sunshine Park

    Monday, July 23, for Boys & Girls Grades 3, 4 and 5 and Tuesday, July 24, for Boys & Girls Grades 6, 7 and 8. Team check-in at 5:45 PM and the play begins at 6 PM. Meet at Sunshine Park. Preregistration is required at the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department Office by Wednesday July 11. Officials and all equipment will be provided. Trophies will be awarded to the winners in each division. In case of rain, tournament will be moved to the Washington Street Gym (401 N Washington Street). The sponsors are Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and the Fraternal Order of Police.

    This event is open to all seniors 50 and over. From golf, to pool, whist and bowling, there is a game for everyone's interest. Register through Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department at 626-7015.

  6. Brown County Heritage Ethnic Cooking Series

    July 24, 12:00 PM @ Dacotah Prairie Museum

    The Dacotah Prairie Museum, Alexander Mitchell Library and Natural Abundance present "Brown County Heritage - Ethnic Cooking Series". Each Tuesday starting with July 17 and ending on July 31, a different ethnic cuisine will be highlighted. Some traditional recipes will be prepare and samples will be given out to the audience. The programs will begin at 12 Noon at the Dacotah Prairie Museum on 21 South Main Street in Downtown Aberdeen. July 17th will be "Tastes from India" with Christine Rawstern, July 24th will be "More Novel Recipes" with Cara Romeo and July 31 will be "Greek Favorites" with Ann Paradise. Because these presentations involve food preparation and seating is limited, please call the museum at 626-7117 to reserve your tickets for each cooking program. Tickets will be picked up on the day of each program.
